Osteopathy Today

Osteopathy is a recognised system of diagnosis and treatment regulated by statute since 1993 that can be used to treat a wide range of medical conditions.

Osteopathy is based on the principles that the body’s structure (what it is made of) and function (the jobs it performs) are inter-related and that for your body to work well, all the organs, joints, nerves and blood vessels need to be free of obstructions.

The Treatment

Osteopathy is based on the principles that the body is a self-healing and self-regulating organism that functions as a whole which means that your body parts rather than working independently are inter-related and can therefore affect each other.

Osteopaths use touch and various types of manipulations and massage techniques to improve the mobility of joints, relieve muscle tension, and enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues including internal organs to promote your body’s own healing mechanisms.

Osteopath with specific training in what is commonly known as “Cranial Osteopathy have been taught to develop their sense of touch to be able to feel for involuntary movements which should naturally occur through the body including the head, again with the objective of removing tensions and blockages through the body and promoting health.

Your Osteopath may also provide you with advice on posture, lifestyle and exercises to aid recovery and prevent symptoms reoccurring.

Conditions treated by Osteopaths

The most common conditions that we treat are:

• Back and neck pain

• Shoulder and arm problems

• Pelvis, hip and leg problems

• Sports and other injuries

However, patients have found osteopathy helpful for many other conditions.

About Alexandra Luzzato

Alexandra graduated from the renowned European School of Osteopathy (ESO) in 2001 having previously studied in France Medicine then Osteopathy from 1995 to 1999.

This extensive training has enabled her to use a particularly wide range of diagnostic and treatment approaches and tools, which have been further enriched by her personal experience and professional encounters in other fields of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) such as Acupuncture, Nutritional Medicine and Yoga to name but a few.

Alexandra’s natural affinity and interest with what is commonly known as “Cranial Osteopathy” has led her to pursue further studies on the field, mainly through the Jim Jealous’ Biodynamics program, which she completed (phase 7) in 2012.

Since graduating, she has been in full-time practice in Sussex where she has enjoyed working alongside similarly skilled and dedicated therapists in the various fields of Complementary and Alternative Medicine treating patients of all ages from the new-born to the elderly and including pregnant women.
