Kay Atkinson qualified with a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Osteopathy in 1996 from the British School of Osteopathy in London. Kay worked as a locum osteopath for two years, gaining insight into various practice scenarios and methods of treatment and also building up her experience as an osteopath by seeing a greater number of patients. She has attended various post-graduate courses in many subjects, including dry-needling techniques and traditional acupuncture, cranial osteopathy, sports injuries, golf injuries and rehabilitation. She currently sees a number of younger patients who she treats with cranial osteopathy and worked with Raymond Perrin at the Perrin Clinic in Manchester for 8 years specialising in the osteopathic treatment of ME/chronic fatigue syndrome. She commonly sees babies and young children with conditions such as colic, birth trauma, plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome), ADD and autistic spectrum disorders. She is also a member of the Northern Counties Society of Osteopaths where she attends as part of her CPD requirement.
She set up Southport Osteopathy in 1998 and worked as a sole practitioner. She expanded in 2006 and moved to the Manning Road premises in 2007 and is the principal with 3 other osteopaths and practitioners of different disciplines.
In her spare time she enjoys DIY, health and fitness, and time with her family.
