Jennifer Bailey

BSc (Hons) Ost Med, DO, ND.

I graduated from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002 with a Bachelor's degree in Osteopathic Medicine. I started practicing in Manchester, then soon after opened City Osteopaths Wolverhampton in early 2003 with my husband Daniel. We moved the clinic from Coalway Road Penn, to Berrington Lodge on the Tettenhall Road in 2009. My time is now divided between looking after my 3 young children, my patients at City Osteopaths, running the Breast Feeding Support Group in Wombourne and the creche at my local church.

Clinical Practice

I am experienced in treating all kinds of painful conditions, however I have developed significant additional skills in relation to the management of problems associated with pregnancy, and common conditions in babies and children. This has involved completing my training as a cranial osteopath, a breast feeding peer support worker and various postgraduate courses in paediatric and obstetric care with mentorship from leading experts. I use a variety of techniques which are dependent on the presentation of the individual patient, but may include: soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, joint manipulation, cranial osteopathy, exercise advice, ergonomic advice, postural advice, nutritional advice, acupuncture and taping. As part of my work for South Staffordshire Childrens' Centre I have completed safeguarding training for children and vulverable adults and have enhanced DBS clearance.

Babies and Children

In addition to my undergraduate paediatric training, I have undertaken the Sutherland Cranial College course in cranial osteopathy. I have attended several training days at the Osteopathic Centre for Children observing and treating in the large charity based clinic in Manchester. I have also completed a paediatric mentorship programme involving specialist paediatric history taking and examination techniques as well as advanced treatment protocols. Along with many other less involved courses, this additional training has provided me with the skills to safely examine babies and children, and to assess whether osteopathic treatment is appropriate and where necessary make the relevant referral to other healthcare professionals.

Pregnancy and Post-natal Care

I have attended various training courses in the assessment and management of pregnancy related problems, including from Portland Hospital London, Dr Stephen Sandler's course on obstetric care. This included training relating to when it is safe to treat during pregnancy and how treatment can be adapted to make it safe and more comfortable at every stage in pregnancy. My training as a breastfeeding peer support worker for South Staffordshire Childrens' Centre, involved assisting mothers and babies in obtaining comfortable and effective breastfeeding positions, counselling of mothers in the early post-natal stage, and familiarisation with the World Health Organisation guidelines on weaning and safe sleep.
