Conditions treated by osteopaths

Osteopathic treatment can help many musculoskeletal conditions. These include joint and muscle sprains due to acute injuries, as well as problems such as neck and shoulder pain. It can often alleviate the problems associated with stress and tension including headaches.

Conditions treated include: headaches, neck pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, wrist & arm pain, hip, knee and leg problems, back pain, disc problems and sciatica.

What is osteopathic treatment like?

Osteopathy is now recognised as an effective treatment for a wide range of painful disorders. It helps restore the function of the musculoskeletal system (joints, muscles and ligaments);. The aim is to relieve pain and get you going again as quickly as possible. Patients of all ages can obtain benefit. The treatment is tailored to suit each individual patient.

Osteopathic treatment consists of gentle movements of the joints and stretching of the muscles, ligaments and fascia. Treatment is not usually painful though it is sometimes uncomfortable. Rhythmical movements of the spine and other joints may be used to aid relaxation.

Osteopathy is for everyone

Osteopathy is suitable for all ages from infancy to old age. It can be of benefit to manual workers and office workers, sportsmen and women, musicians, dancers and other performers. Women can derive great benefit during pregnancy, as osteopathic treatment can alleviate many of the aches and pains associated with pregnancy and can help to prepare the woman for labour. After the birth, osteopathic treatment may help the woman's body to recover from the pregnancy, as well as helping her baby to recover from the birth.

Children and adolescents may need treatment for spinal asymmetry, sports-related injuries or developmental problems (growing pains);.
